Safety
First : Protect Your Child from Scalds
Every
year over 10,000 children require hospital treatment caused by scaldings. Therefore
children are at risk from hot liquids. A few even die, and a few scared for their
whole life possibly caused by negligence.
Advise
:
If you have an accident run cold water over the scald right away. Keep running
the cold water until the " sting" goes away. Do not stop to remove
clothing. get medical help for anything ,but the smallest accident.
NEVER
:
NEVER allow pan handles to hang over the edge of the gas or electric cooker
NEVER
leave a kettle close to the edge of a work surface. Never allow the mains lead
to hang over the edge.
NEVER
carry hot drinks close to children or hold a baby when you are drinking
NEVER
run a child's bath without first testing the water
ALWAYS:
ALWAYS use
the rear gas burners or electric rings whenever possible and always turn pan
handles away from the edge of the cooker
ALWAYS
use the kettle at the back of the worktop with the mains lead as short
as possible and out of reach
ALWAYS
keep hot drinks well out of children's reach and as far back on kitchen worktops
as is practicable
ALWAYS
run cold
water into the bath first, then add hot water and mix well. Test with your elbow
before you put baby into the water
All the above sounds
very familiar, however if we practice these basic reminders, we are sure to ensure
that any unforeseen accidents of this nature will not happen or very minimized
at home.
