Noise from nearby quarry irks residentsBy dharmender
singhRESIDENTS in USJ 27, Subang Jaya, are fed up with the
blasting and noise of heavy machinery at a nearby quarry.
Resident Alex Lim said he had to endure the constant sound of
heavy machinery crunching rocks since he shifted in June.
“Often the crunching goes on until midnight, including weekends.
We are exposed to the noise every day of the week,’’ Lim said.
He said for the past one month the frequency of the blasting had
increased from just two a day to eight.
He added that there used to just be one blast in the morning and
another in the afternoon but lately it had increased to between
three and four blasts in the morning and an equal number in the
afternoon.
Another resident, Sathi Govindarajoo, said the residents also had
to put up with a lot of dust from the quarry.
“Thick layer of dust settles on our vehicles in less than an hour
after a wash. The residents and children are also inhaling the
polluted air daily.
“We are worried about the effects of the dust on our respiratory
systems,’’ he said.
He hoped that the Subang Jaya Municipal Council (MPSJ) would take
action against the company operating the quarry to protect the
residents and put a stop to the incessant noise pollution.
