Always be alert for house alarms, car alarms, whistles, car horns and people shouting. Do not ignore car alarms and think that it might be a mis-activation. Many people activate their car alarms during emergencies so it could be that your neighbour is in trouble. Come out to investigate if you hear a car alarm being sounded, even if it is for a short duration.

A car horn being sounded continuously could also be a signal that a suspected crime is being conducted. You can be sure that something is amiss, if you hear a continuous horn between 2.00am. to 5.00am. because this is patrol time of the neighbourhood watch.

Do investigate if you hear shouting in neighbouring homes. It could be a domestic squabble, but it could also be something worse, like its occupants struggling with intruders or burglars. Be extra alert if this occurs at late night or in the early morning before sunrise.

Keep your Handphone switched on if you can.

We know many of you would like to switch off your Handphone at night, but do try to keep them on at all times. Your neighbour might have to call you in an emergency, like when an intruder is breaking into his/her house or might already be "IN" the house.
