or your info, the quarry is not going to operate forever as you unjustly
imply. Can't you see that sime uep is currently turning the area (between the
highway and the quarry) into a housing scheme which will be complete by june
2003. By that time the quarry has no business to be there. The main purpose
of the quarry's existence is to reduce the hill to a platform level suitable
for houses. We plan to finish off everything before new residents occupy
the area and that is, as I stated above, should be before june 2003. We
want to quarry the area as fast as we can and then cease operations in
anticipation of the township that is fast expanding. The more you protest the
slower would be our excavation rate and the longer would it take for us to
demolish the rock wall. Even if the quarry stops now, the developer would
still have to engage contractors to carry out exactly what we are doing
except that it will take much longer. So I suggest that you bear with us a
littte longer until we voluntarily abandon the area. After all, we are here
well before you. The house, the roads and other structures in subang jaya
are built using rocks from the very quarry that you are protesting against.
As for health, quarry operators in the country, being more exposed to dust
and noise than the general public, would have been deaf, or dead or
suffering from respiratory problems by now. Yet, they still keep on working
- and not because for want of a job.

Dear Encik Abdul Hamid Matpiah
We should like to direct you to the events
that took place yesterday at your Quarry.
We are very sadly disappointed that this is
the reaction from an established organisation like yours.
Hopefully, it is not an implication that we
must bring the matter up to even higher authorities, like the Mentri
Besar and the full Board of Directors of Sime Darby Group.
We should be obliged if you would copy this
email to all the relevant Directors in your organisation for their kind
attention.
Best Regards
