Subang Jaya, Wed: The residents of USJ23 and USJ26 are frustrated with the
owners of a quarry near their homes which has been operating until 10pm
for the past month. The residents
say the quarry, located about 300m from USJ26, has been a source of noise
and air pollution. Beh Yong Hock
said the quarry's general manager informed him that the district office
has granted approval for the extended hours of operations.
Previously, the operation hours were 8.30am to 6.30pm.
Beh question the district office's move in extending the
operating hours without consulting the residents, comprising 120 houses in
USJ23 and 60 houses in USJ26.
"Earlier this year, it operated 24 hours before the district office out a
stop to it," he said at a protest staged by the residents at the quarry.
In May, the Subang Jaya Municipal Council (MPSJ) has issued
a summons to the quarry for exceeding the permitted noise level.
The residents want to know if the district office had given
the approval to the quarry to operate until 10pm.
"If so, we want the approval to be withdrawn. We will take
the matter to the state government if nothing is done," said Beh.
Council president Ahmad Fuad Ismail said he is
investigating. The quarry operator
could not be reached for comments. |
