But extension is not for blasting wroks, says Petaling Land Office
by Ng Kar Yean Petaling Jaya, Tues:
The Petaling District Land Office says it gave permission to Puchong
Quarry Sdn Bhd in USJ, Subang Jaya, to operate until 10pm from Monday to
Saturday. But the extension, given more than a
month ago, is only for
transportation works and not rock-blasting.
A Land Office spokesman said today the quarry, through its
parent company Sime UEP Properties Bhd, had applied to extend its
operating hours because more rocks are needed for its housing projects.
"The approval was given on condition that the quarry will
not disturb the residents and cause pollution," the spokesman said.
He sad the
permission was only for transporting rocks from the quarry site.
He also clarified that normal operating hours of the quarry
are 8am to 5pm and not 8.30am to 6.30pm as claimed by the residents of
USJ23 and USJ26. The residents had complained of
noise and air pollution at night since the quarry extended its operating
hours. "Since we have received complaints from the
residents, spot checks will be conducted immediately," the spokesman said.
"If we find that the quarry is breaking the rules, the
permission will be revoked." He said it was normal
for the Land Office to permit quarries to extend their operating hours.
"However, the approval is given on a case by case basis,"
he said. |
